Summary
Uber is powered by insights. Chances are good that your company is, too. We’ve all had firsthand experiences of an inconvenient truth: insights are only as good as our ability to make use of them, and centralizing insights in a tool is only one piece of the puzzle. In this session we’ll not only share how we created our insights database, Kaleidoscope, but also what we’ve learned about changing behavior through partnerships and processes at an organizational level.
Key Insights
-
•
Uber’s insights platform Kaleidoscope integrates learnings from across 700 cities and multiple business lines to reduce duplicated efforts and share knowledge globally.

A unified insights taxonomy with components 'who, what, why' was created to standardize how insights are captured, making them clearer and actionable.
-
•
Insights are defined as important learnings that inform decisions about projects, roadmaps, or programs—not just raw data or facts.
-
•
Insights creators and consumers have distinct needs: creators want their work to be seen and correctly used; consumers want deep, trustworthy understanding to guide decisions.
-
•
Kaleidoscope supports rich interaction with insights, including filtering by various attributes, collections, comments, and links to original research.
-
•
Engagement is driven by rituals like periodic 'look backs,' insight uploadathons, and monthly awards recognizing impactful insights.
-
•
Connecting existing team systems rather than replacing them fosters adoption; Kaleidoscope acts as a network linking distributed knowledge nodes.
-
•
Triangulating insights across functions and regions provides a holistic perspective enabling more broadly addressable opportunities.
-
